Just 17kms from Kingscote, Emu Bay is several kilometres long and it is one of the few beaches on KI that allow car/4wd access. The waters are usually calm, crystal clear and the depth increases gradually which make it an ideal location for those with small children and pets.
There are public toilets, a play ground and BBQ’s located at the entrance to beach – another option is to grab the small BBQ available for loan at the Mulberry Tree and have your own BBQ further along the beach (stock up with food and drinks in Kingscote on your way out).
Our favourite spot is about half way down the beach where there two sand dunes are located – these provide protection from wind, a great play spot for kids and also a rewarding view from the top.
At the very far end of the beach there are numerous rock pools to explore – if you choose to drive to the far end, just be aware of the tide levels as there is a narrow section that may trap your vehicle at high tide.
